What to Say on Your CV

You are a motivated person who works well with others. You have focus and passion, determination to succeed and are very versatile. If you tell a prospective employer all these things on your CV, you are going to surely stand out from much of the crowd, right?

Well, actually, no. Buzzwords are now the written equivalent of white noise and, should you populate your CV with such meaningless terms, you may well find that your CV says very little about you at all.

A good CV will let your personality shine through. With everyone putting such similar terms on their résumés, a huge majority of people will end up all sounding exactly the same. By being far more focussed on what you write and by giving terms that are free from cliché and hyperbole, you will find that you are far more likely to shine through and show that you are not just one to follow the crowd.

To write a good CV, you need it to say something about you, not just say what you expect employers to want to hear. Try to be more clear about what your skills actually are – if you are indeed motivated, give a more concise appraisal of your own unique motivations and what you wish to achieve in a working environment and why.

For those who are unused to such candidness, it can often be easier to create an online résumé. Going online to create your CV gives a great deal more scope and far more interesting ways to present the information you wish to get across. Not only will you then stand out by being more open about who you are, but you will also be able to stand out by simply being far more interesting in the way you present yourself too.

So avoid those buzzwords that may sound so great in your head and instead make sure that you honestly look at what you have to offer and try to communicate it in a fresh and focussed way.
